Russel Garlick

Russel is Head of Projects at Catalyst IT, where he has served as Development Team Manager for the RiskScape software development team for the past seven years. He has extensive experience in software development and project management, leading complex technical transformations in the natural hazards and risk assessment domain.

The Catalyst RiskScape development team has successfully transformed a legacy black-box desktop application into a modern, extensible open-source engine with an integrated cloud-based collaboration platform. This work supports critical risk modelling for New Zealand’s natural hazards, from real-time landslide impact forecasts to nationwide earthquake, flood and volcanic risk assessments that inform national insurance levies, emergency response and land use decisions.
